Biochar Volunteer
La Bolina is looking for a volunteer to start a biochar project in El Valle.
This project will support La Bolina in its goal to contribute to ecological regeneration and fighting against climate change, by reducing release of carbon into the atmosphere through burning, sequestering carbon in the soil, and improving soil fertility and productivity.
Your role is to share the leadership and development of this project and to design and implement a successful biochar initiative for El Valle, with the support of a person within the La Bolina team.
With the help of the volunteer person we want to:

Train local farmers and the local authorities on biochar.

Research on possibility of commercialization of biochar in specific places in Spain (organic farms, ecovillages, other)

Create a steering group with local farmers and authorities.

Support the steering group to develop the most appropriate model for biochar in El Valle.

Create demonstration plots with a group of selected farmers.

Advise the steering group in the acquisition of the necessary materials for the biochar.
Volunteering conditions

This is a 5 month volunteer position. 2 months will be online volunteer work, plus 3 months locally based in El Valle, Granada Spain.

Start: mid November- early Dic 2021

The costs of the activities and materials will be covered.

Volunteer insurance.

La Bolina will try to support travel costs.

The working schedule will be 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Including a day at the land with the rest of La Bolina team.
Volunteer Profile
We search for a person with experience with Biochar, training skills on Biochar and implementing biochar schemes. We would love to collaborate with someone that speaks Spanish and English and that has community experience and enjoys team work.
We are a diverse community so the volunteer will enjoy cultural diversity.
The volunteer will have access to La Bolina vehicles for particular activities, so driving licence is fundamental.
If the volunteer brings his/her/they own car the project will cover petrol expenses.
